GLYPH
Tuesday, March 19, 2013. The lava fields around the active volcano on Hawaii. A spiritual place, a holy place, a place where people went to commune with the ancestors and to continue their line. I saw this around Kona, in shops, and then I saw this on the lava field. Rough, minimal, meaningful.

WALKER FACE
February 8, 2011. I finished an early and strenuous day, filled with faces and forms and questions, and then passed this portrait. I imagine that the artist saw this gray shape, and like a sculptor, could see how to liberate the form within. Did she look at it and think that it was a shame the rest of us couldn't see it, or did she think that the face was longing to become visible? It was there and was brought out to life.Friday, October 16, 2009
YAPPING DOG
October 14, 2009. What cleverness exists in the minds of humans. This sad figure looks like it is having a hard time climbing the stairs, and to make matters worse it is accompanied by a yapping dog. Is this a nod to the dog whisperer brand, is it the maker’s personal experience, or is it just a dog behaving badly? In the far future, when this plaque is discovered in some buried dump, people will argue over the pictograph of the dog and try to establish the exact breed, what it looked like, how it behaved, if it was an early warning system. We all know what it is though, even with its cartoon lines.
