HOMAGE

Wednesday, March 13, 2013.  Palau.  I can never look at fowl without thinking of Jakuchu's Colorful Realm.  This particular rooster was in Palau, part of Micronesia, preening in the early morning sun, before I left to dive far out in the Pacific.  He was a beauty.  His contortion turns him into a ball, with a tail, seeing where he has been but not where he is going to.

RED FISH

Saturday, February 23, 2013.  A red fish swimming in a yellow sea - maybe a premonition for my next diving trip.  I don't often see yellow coral, so maybe this fish has jumped out of the ocean to view the sun from a different point of view.

GOAT ASCENDING

Monday, October 1, 2012.  The goat rises from the herd, pulled upward by the force of nature, its fleece beginning to turn golden as it rotates in the setting sun.  The others are unaware that it is transcending time and space, consumed as they are by their own endeavors.  But, its time has come and it has decided to start on a new journey.

GREEN FISH

June 23, 2012.  Swimming along a whitewashed wall, an ancient creature, menacing, mouth agape with a toothsome display.  Impossibly lit by the sun's glare, this prehistoric beauty swims along a barren reef.  I watch, unable to approach.

THE LONELINESS OF PIGEONS

January 3, 2010. These birds couldn’t have cared less how close I came to them. It was cold and they were alone, trying to catch the warming rays from what little sun there was on the steps of the 33rd Street Post Office. The soft grey and purple of the chest feathers gathering just at the round of the breast, the bill tucked into this feathery mass. The bird to the right is almost a perfect cold weather pose and seems to be the only outward looking bird, maybe aware of this human mass approaching it – with no outstretched hand to offer sustenance.
